What is Salmonella (Salmonellosis)? Symptoms, & Prevention!
All About Salmonella Symptoms, Treatment & Prevention!
The recent US multistate salmonella symptoms and salmonella infection outbreak due to pre-cut melon have sickened a lot of people. It has resulted in the recall of fresh-cut watermelon, honeydew melon, cantaloupe, and fresh-cut mixed fruit products containing one of those melons produced by Caito Foods LLC, a unit of SpartanNash Co. in Indianapolis, from various stores including Costco, Jay C, Kroger, Payless, Owen's, Sprouts, Trader Joe's, Walgreens, Walmart, and Whole Foods/Amazon.
Reports of illnesses linked to these products are under investigation, and Caito Foods voluntarily recalls the products out of an abundance of caution, the company said in a statement, adding it has ceased producing and distributing these products as the company and FDA continue their investigation.
Consumers are advised to throw away their pre-cut melon, the CDC recommends. The CDC said evidence suggested that melon supplied by Caito Foods is a likely source of this multistate outbreak. The investigation is ongoing to determine if products went to additional stores or states, the agencies said. Let’s proceed to the meaning of Salmonella.
What is Salmonella?
Salmonella infection or salmonellosis is a bacteria that is food-borne and lives in the intestinal tract of humans or animals and excretes through the face. Reptiles, rodents, and birds may also be infected by the infection. It was discovered by an American scientist called Dr Salmon and has been known to cause illness for over 125 years ago.
Salmonella Poisoning Signs, Symptoms, And Treatments
Common salmonella symptoms include gastrointestinal symptoms such as the sudden onset of diarrhoea, fever, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, or headaches. These symptoms occur within 12–72 hours and last for 4–7 days. Most people recover from this infection.
However, in some people, the diarrhoea may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalised. When it comes to Salmonella treatment, there are no vaccinations to prevent it. Antibiotics are recommended for patients with serious illnesses.
What is Salmonella Commonly Found In
Salmonella outbreaks are most commonly associated with the consumption of raw meats like beef, poultry, eggs, fruits, raw milk, or vegetables.
